Thailand's first IKEA opened here in November 2011, six months before the mall itself opened in May 2012. The furniture store was the anchor that pulled an entire retail city out to the edge of town.

Unlike Bangkok's vertical downtown malls, Mega Bangna spreads outward across a single vast level — a suburban, car-first design in a city that normally builds upward. It has since grown an ice rink, cinemas and an outdoor Mega Food Walk.
