Chao-Thin — Ram Inthra 72
A big, airy neighbourhood bakery-café in north-eastern Bangkok where the pastry is baked through the day — so the whole room smells of hot butter — and the salted-egg lava fillings are the thing to order.
Chao-Thin (เจ้าถิ่น, literally "the local" or "the one who owns the turf") is a home-grown Thai bakery brand, and its Ram Inthra 72 branch is built for lingering: high timber beams, a long marble-topped counter, a wall-sized croissant mural, and enough space that it rarely feels crowded even when the trays are coming out. You order at the counter and can eat in or take away.
Salted-Egg Lava Pastry ขนมเปี๊ยะลาวาไข่เค็ม
Chao-Thin's signature is the salted-egg yolk lava — a molten, savoury-sweet custard made from salted duck egg. It comes two ways, and both are worth knowing:

If you are sitting in, order the Salted Egg Lava Croissant (ครัวซองต์ลาวาไข่เค็ม) ฿35 and eat it straight away — the photo at the top of this page is exactly what happens when you break one open warm.
Why people rate it
- Everything is baked on site through the day. Walk in and the smell hits you first — hot butter and caramelised sugar. The racks behind the counter are usually mid-bake, with staff bringing fresh trays out to the display.
- Eat in and it comes out hot. The pastries are served warm to dine-in customers, which is when a good croissant is at its best and when the lava filling actually runs.
- Prices are moderate. Most pastries sit in the ฿35–75 range — a plain or filled croissant is ฿35, so it is easy to try several.
- Room to sit. It is spacious and calm, with a pleasant, well-lit interior — a genuine work-or-catch-up café rather than a grab-and-go counter.
- Come for the bakes, not the drinks. In our own visit the coffee and other beverages were fine but not the highlight — treat them as a companion to the pastry rather than the reason to come.
